Charles William Resseger

Charles William Resseger, age 89, of Norwalk, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Gaymont Nursing Center.

He was born June 5, 1922 in Willard, where he lived most of his life, moving to Norwalk 23 years ago. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He served in the US Navy from 1940 to 1946, which included five years on four ships as a signalman, in both the Atlantic and Pacific War Zones during WWII. He served his community as a Willard City Councilman for two years, one as President. He was a choir member of Grace United Methodist Church in Willard for 18 years.

Charles was an active member of several fraternal and charitable organizations. He belonged to the Willard Masonic Golden Rule Lodge No 562 and Chapter No. 167, and also Worshipful Master of Plymouth Masonic Lodge in his earlier years. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge 1370 in Willard, where he served as Exalted Ruler for two years. He was past Finance Officer of Plymouth American Legion Post 447, and later a member of Shiloh American Legion Post 503. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War, and helped establish the Lions Club in Willard during his earlier years.

He managed his own Insurance Agency in Willard for 39 years for Farm Bureau Insurance, later named Nationwide, and for the Celina Insurance Group. He was also a Real Estate Agent and Broker for over 10 years. After retiring, "Charlie" worked at PNR Hardware in Norwalk for six years, and Gardner's Super Valu for seven years. He enjoyed reading, traveling, and baking cookies for others to enjoy.

Survived by his wife, Esther (Fritz) Resseger, whom he married December 24, 1943 and celebrated 68 years of marriage; and son, Dr. Charles (Charlene) Resseger of Norwalk; daughters, Shari (Greg) Baum of Westerville, OH and Sheila (Todd) McConnell of Sewickley, PA; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Flossie Resseger; sister, Virginia Kunkle Shaffer; and brother, James L. Resseger.

Friends may call on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. The Rev. Gary C. Streiff will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven.
