Douglas A. Hogrefe

Douglas A. Hogrefe, passed away October 1, 2023, peacefully in his home.

He was born in Sandusky, Ohio, December 6, 1933, to the late Marjorie and Dietrich Hogrefe and resided in Bay View, Ohio, since 1961

Doug graduated from Sandusky High School in Sandusky, Ohio and attended the GMI Engineering and Management Institute before he joined Ford Motor Company as a Tool and Die Maker. He is a veteran of the Air Force. While stationed in Zaragoza Spain, he brought back his Spanish bride and love, Carmen, with whom he happily spent the next 63 years.

His hobbies and passions were many over the years. More than anything he loved being active with his family and became his children's coach and biggest cheerleader in their shooting careers and all they pursued in life. He continued to coach smallbore rifle and referee for many years to the benefit of numerous kids across Ohio.

Most importantly he wanted to be the best father, husband, son, and brother he could be and a friend to all.

Doug leaves behind his wife Maria Carmen Miguel Hogrefe; son Richard Hogrefe (Meghan) and daughters Ana English (James McArdle) and Kimberly Levine; sister Kathryn Quint; and all his grandchildren (Amber, Nicholas, Joshua, Heather, Julia and Elinor), great grandchildren (Oliver, Theodora, and Charlotte), in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends he considered family as well.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Carryl Martin and Beatrice Weinstein, brother Ralph Hogrefe and son-in-law Michael English.

Doug's Celebration of Life will take place Monday, October 9, 2023, with food and drink starting at 2pm and memories shared at 3pm in Bay View at The Bay Bell Restaurant, 803 Bayview Drive, Sandusky, OH 44870.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hogrefe Foundation, 152 Columbus Ave Sandusky OH 44870, with a mission to help make Erie County a better place for its citizens, with a focus on children.
