Ruth C. Nemitz

Ruth C. Nemitz, 98, of Sandusky passed away on October 10, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born in Sandusky on March 8, 1925, to Edward and Nora Blade. She married the love of her life, Walter Nemitz, in 1967 and spent nearly forty years with him before his passing in 2007.

She worked at the coal docks during World War II and then Philco and Hinde and Dauch before spending many years as a phone operator at Asher Brothers.

Ruth was a wonderful cook. Every Sunday night was a big family dinner that all were welcomed, and which usually ended with one of the more than 6000 pies she made in her life. She took her love of cooking to church where she helped set up Doughnut Sunday at Holy Angels and cooked for the bereavement committee until she was in her nineties. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and was an avid reader.

She is survived by her two daughters, Susan (Rick) Lange and Bonnie (Rich) Carruthers; one son, Brian (Laurie) Harple; daughter-in-law, Jane Harple; grandchildren, Jo Anne (Mark) Higbee, Bridget (Greg) Schneider, Todd Lange, Julie (Jeff) Lewis, Liz (Sean) Jones, Karla (Trevor) Warren, Aaron (Ashley) Harple, and LeAnne Harple; great grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Ellie, Vivian, Sam, Hayden, Jordan, Shaunna, Briana, Gabby, Quinn, Harper, and Paxton; step-grandchildren, Peter (Anne) Drake and Ben (Ashley) Drake; step great grandchildren, Ethan, Lucas, Mia, and Emma; her best friend, Nancy Sharpe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Harple; brother, Paul Blade; and sister, Cathleen Manuella.

All who knew her were better for knowing her and she will be missed every day.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses, caregivers and all the staff at Portland Place for the wonderful care they gave our mom. We also valued the Stein Hospice nurses for their caring nature.

Friends may call from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 15, 2023, in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. A funeral mass for Ruth will be at 10:00 am Monday, October 16, 2023, in Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky. Father Mark Herzog will officiate. The burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Angels-Zion Lutheran Annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 and Cancer Services, 505 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
