Mary Alicia (Lockyer) Bock

Mary Alicia (Lockyer) Bock, 77, residing in Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, October 21, 2023, at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio.

Mary was born on October 29, 1945 in St. John's Newfoundland to the late Alphonsus and Ida (Bennett) Lockyer.

Mary's life was a testament to her strength and resilience. She bravely battled Multiple Sclerosis for 23 years, a fight that showcased her unwavering spirit and determination. Despite her health challenges, she remained a source of inspiration, kindness, and warmth to all who knew her.

Mary was the cherished wife of Paul E. Bock, whom she married on October 12, 1968. Their love story spanned over five decades, filled with shared adventures as they traveled the world together during Paul's Navy service. Mary embraced the role of a Navy wife with grace and enthusiasm, creating a beautiful home with her love for decorating wherever they were stationed. A proud Canadian, Mary was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Placentia, Newfoundland, growing up. Mary also had a passion for gardening and cooking.

Mary dedicated over 30 years of her life to caring for others as a nurse's aide at various nursing homes and care centers. She retired from the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky in 2003, where she worked in the Alzheimer's Unit. Her compassion and dedication to her work were a testament to her caring nature and her deep commitment to helping others.

In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary (Marc) Hagley of Ontario, Canada; grandson, David Hagley of Ontario, Canada; sister, Lorraine Celento of Placentia, Newfoundland; niece, Jessica Selent of Sandusky; great-nephew, Jacob Marin; and numerous cousins and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law, Margaret A. (Bock) Selent.

Friends may call on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 9:00 am until the time of Funeral Services at 10:00 am at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave. Sandusky, Ohio 44870 with Deacon Phil Dinovo presiding. Burial will take place at 12:00 pm in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.
