Mattie J. Jackson

Mattie J. Jackson, 83, Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 24, 2012, in Stein Hospice Care Center, after a lengthy illness.

She was born on August 30, 1928 in Mathews, AL, to the late Andrew and Nancy Ellen (Byrd) Frazier.

She accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and became a member of Bethel Baptist under the leadership of Dr. H.H. Hubbard in Montgomery, AL.

Mattie married Charlie J. Jackson, Sr. on March 26, 1955, and later relocated to Sandusky in 1957. She joined the Providence Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. Eddie Brown and under the leadership of the former pastor, Rev. Samuel Mickles. Mother Jackson attended Providence Missionary Baptist Church faithfully until her illness prevented her from attending worship services, but her faith remained in the Lord.

She was a retired employee of the former Memorial Hospital, Sandusky.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 63 years, Charlie James Jackson, Sr.; sons, Andrew Frazier, Donnell Jackson, and Paul Allen Jackson, all of Sandusky, Charlie James Jackson, Jr., Marietta, GA, and Richard Earl Jackson, Port Clinton; daughters, Lena Mae (Johnnie) Patrick, Montgomery, AL, Betty Jean (Harvey) Nicholson and Mattie Pearl Jackson, both of Sandusky, and Elizabeth Jackson, Columbus, OH; special daughter-in-law, Doris J. Frazier; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and special friends, Creasie Spearman, Barbara Smith, Lillie M. Simpson, and Mary J. Wright.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Shirley Ann Jackson and Pauline Jackson; brother, Amos Frazier; sisters, Mary (Charlie) Pettiford and Estella (Ulysses) Hill; grandchildren, Doris Marie Frazier and Michael Shawn Frazier.

Friends may call on Friday, June 1, 2012, from 5-7 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12 P.M. Noon in Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 224 Dixie Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Scottie L. Aaron will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.toftfh.com.
