Aretta Smith, 89, residing in Sandusky, passed away Friday afternoon, November 3, 2023 at home surrounded by her family after a brief illness.
Aretta was born on April 1, 1934 on Easter Sunday in Ferrellsburg, West Virginia to the late Jesse and Christina (Stratton) Lambert.
Aretta was employed at Behnkes, Ford Motor Company and finally retired after working for Russell's Flower Shop. Aretta was an active member of Wayside Temple. She enjoyed singing with melody makers, bingo, bowling, WWE wrestling, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, puzzles, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
Aretta is survived by her daughters, Loretta (Glenn) Hoppe of Fort Worth, Texas, Karen (Gerald) Lyons of Sandusky, Sherry Jenkins of Sandusky, grandchildren, Christopher, Shaun, Jason, Brendan, Amber, Ben, and Kristi, thirteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to parents, Aretta is preceded in death by her first husband Claude Gillam; who she was married to for thirty three years, second husband, Robert Smith; who she was married to for twenty years, daughter Sandra Kay Gillam-Lord, grandchild, Russell Allen Thompson, brother Raymond Lee Lambert and sister, Gerri Printz.
Friends may call on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until time of Services at 12:00 p.m. at Wayside Temple, 3809 Maple Ave., Castalia, OH 44824. Shelby Gillam and Rusty Yost will be co-officiating. Burial will follow in at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, Ohio.
