Ernest "Ernie" Young

Ernest "Ernie" Young, 82, Sandusky, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2012, in Stein Hospice Care Center.


He was born on October 22, 1929 in Clyde, Ohio.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 3rd Armor Division during the Korean Conflict.

Ernie was employed by Mac Iron Works for 41 years, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of the Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene, American Legion Post 83, and loved working and fixing everything for his family, neighbors, and friends; he was a Jack-of-all-trades.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry (Schrader) Young, whom he married on June 9, 1990; step-daughters, Donna Dante, Deema (Carlos) Torres, and Nancy Showalter, all of Sandusky, and Darla (Mike) Busscher, Big Lake, MN; step-sons, Denando (Sheryl) Dante, Sandusky and Carl Baker, Norwalk; special family, Dabbles Dante, CA, and R.J. Dante, stationed in the Army; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel M. Gilbert, Castalia; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis F. and Pearl M. (Beatty) Young; sisters, Dorothy Olivares and Evelyn Pocock; brothers, Thomas, Fred, Frank, Jimmy, Johnny and William; and step-daughter, Carol Synder.

Friends may call on Monday, June 4, 2012, from 5-7 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Friends may also call on Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until time of funeral services at 10:30 A.M. in the Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene, 1617 Milan Rd., Sandusky. Rev. David Flack will officiate. Burial will be in Parkhurst Cemetery, Clyde, where the American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard will provide military honors.
