Robert Elbert Gillespie Sr.

Robert Elbert Gillespie Sr., 82, residing in North Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at after a lengthy illness.

Robert was born on November 12, 1941, in Sockets Harbor, NY to the late William and Norma (Lesperance) Gillespie.

Robert was a graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a Veteran of the Marines who proudly served his country from 1959 to 1963. He was employed as a Conductor at Norfolk Southern for several years. Robert was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #2529. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards and fishing.

Robert is survived by his son, Robert (Angie) Gillespie, Jr., son, Glenn (Marci) Gillespie, sister, Marlene, sister, Barbara, sister, Slyvia, brother, Ronald Gillespie, grandchildren, Tony (Veronica Shultz) Gillespie, Ashley (Gillespie) (Mack) Gillen, great-grandchildren, Mia, Nikolai, and Lincoln, also numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by love of his life, his wife, Beverly (Lauro) Gillespie, his second wife, Carol (Fletcher) Gillespie, brother, Larry Gillespie, brother, Roger Gillespie, sister, Carol Meyers.

Friends may call on Saturday, December 9th, 2023 from 9:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. with Deacon Bill Burch presiding. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky, OH.
