Larry A. Fox

Larry A. Fox, 69, of Sandusky and formerly of Castalia, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, July 17, 2012 in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.

He was born December 11, 1942 in Norwalk, Ohio and was a 1960 graduate of Milan High School.

Larry was employed as a tool & die maker at the former New Departure-Hyatt, Division of General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1999. Prior to this, he had worked at the Industrial Nut Corporation. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sandusky and the U.A.W., Local 913. Larry was a well known runner in the area. He coached cross country and track at St. Mary's Catholic School for 13 years, where he holds the state record of coaching four consecutive state champions in girls cross country. He was the founder and a member of the Firelands Area Runners, founder of the 5K in Milan. He ran in many marathons, including six at the Boston Marathon. His hobbies included running, working in his shop, going on rides, spending time with his grandchildren and he took great pride in his lawn.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Luetta Barnett, three daughters: Kim (Bruce) Miller of Castalia, Kelly (Jeff) Goretzki of Sandusky, Karla (Doug) Smith of Downingtown, PA., one son: Keith Fox of Elyria, 8 grandchildren: Courtney, Adam, Evan, Jenna, Karissa, Jacob, Ciera and Ava, three great granddaughters: Caidince, Cameran and Cendall, three brothers: Joe Fox of Huron, Bill (Priscilla) Fox of Castalia, Fred (Gerry) Fox of Huron, two sisters: Kathy (Charles) Kromer of Tennessee, and Cis Muratori of Huron, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Edward & Margaret (Dambach) Fox.

Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 PM Sunday, July 22, 2012 at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 am Monday, July 23, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in the Holy Angels Catholic Church, 1605 W. Jefferson Street, Sandusky. Father Jason Kahle will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
