Charles R. Spitler

Charles R. Spitler, 89, of Sandusky, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Stein Hospice Care Center.

He was born in Bellevue, Ohio on January 10, 1923 to the late William and Harriett (Macgruder) Spitler. He graduated from York High School, Bellevue, in 1941.

Charles was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Pacific theater during WWII. He was employed by Whirlpool for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1988. He also worked for several years at Sandusky Butter and Egg.

He was a member of the former Calvary Episcopal Church, and a current member of Grace Episcopal Church. Charles was a quiet man who was absolutely devoted to his family and his wife, Nancy.

Charles is survived by his wife, Nancy (Scheid) Spitler, whom he married on April 25, 1953 in the former Calvary Episcopal Church; his son, Steve (Laura) Spitler, of Perrysburg, Ohio; daughter, Sheree Spitler, of Sandusky; grandchildren, Brian and Anissa; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, William, Russell, Raymond, George, and Mary.

At Charles' request, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 11 A.M. at Grace Episcopal Church, 315 Wayne St., Sandusky. The Rev. Jan Smith-Wood will officiate. Entombment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church, or to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870. The family would like to extend their many thanks to the staff of Stein Hospice and the people of Grace Episcopal Church.
