Mervin Leroy Crayton

Mervin Leroy Crayton, 72, of Sandusky, passed away Friday evening, October 12, 2012 in his home with his family at his side.
He was born on July 25, 1940 in Coldwater, Miss. to the late Walter and Earnestine (Wilson) Crayton. He moved to Sandusky at an early age, and made it his home for life.

On November 5, 1960, Mervin was united in marriage to Christine (North) Crayton. They were married for nearly 52 years.

As a young man he worked for Hunter Motor Co. and Carter Lumber Co. In 1963, he started work for Ford Motor Co. in Lorain, Ohio, where he was employed for 30 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1993.

He was a member of East Parish Street Church of Christ. He loved fishing, painting, and working on cars - a trade that he taught his sons. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Mervin is survived by his wife, Christine; sons, Gerald (Mary Jane) Crayton and Gregory (Marcia Griffin) Crayton: Sandy Crayton, both of Sandusky, and Jeffrey Crayton and friend, Darrel Howard, of Memphis, Tenn.; daughter, Angela (DeAndre Darden) Crayton, of Sandusky; grandchildren, Jon Ryan Blakely, Sean Crayton, Alexandra Crayton, Jeremy Crayton, Charnelle Crayton, Cassidy Crayton, De Aongea Darden, De Angela Darden, Gianni Darden, Shakiya Darden, "Kiki" Darden, Melanie (Jack) Hatmaker, Jamie Fox, Jessie Fox, and Brandon Fox; special adopted daughter, Natasha Holmes, of Wisconsin; brothers, Alvin (Jean) Jones and Calvin (Cynthia) Jones, both of Sandusky, and Curtis (Pam) Jones, of Norwalk; sisters, Jessie Carter and Elma Lash, both of Sandusky, Bernestine (Danny) Pettigrew, of Willard, Ohio, and Theresa (Carl) Taylor, of Memphis, Tenn.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Nathan Jones; brother, Dennis Jones; and grandparents, Elmo and Lillian Wilson.

Friends may call on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 6-8 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, and again on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 10:30 A.M. until time of funeral services at Noon in East Parish Street Church of Christ, 1219 E. Parish St., Sandusky. Mervin's cousin, Bro. Stanley Wooten, will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
