Gene J. Deffenbaugh, 84, of Huron, OH passed away Monday evening, September 27, 2010 in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky following a brief illness. He was born September 23, 1926 to Wallace & Ada (Dolch) Deffenbaugh in Uniontown, PA and had lived most of his life in the Sandusky area. Gene was a 1944 graduate of Sandusky High School and had attended Ohio Northern University and Bowling Green State University. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of WW II. He was employed for 43 years at Sandusky Foundry & Machine Co., retiring as the lab manager. Gene was a 50 year member of Perseverance Lodge, No. 329, F. & A.M., had earned an Eagle Scout Award, and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. He was a devoted dad to his five children. He had a great sense of humor, with a quick one liner, and a love of Toft’s ice cream.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois Petersen Deffenbaugh, his children: Lynda Weininger of McCutchenville, OH., Janet Day of Perrysburg, OH., Jim Deffenbaugh of Atlanta, GA., and Amy Baum of Sandusky, OH., six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son: Jack Deffenbaugh, his parents, and one sister: Betty Reed.
Memorial Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday at the Salem United Methodist Church, corner of Wayne and Division Streets, Sandusky. The Rev. Paul S. Atkinson will officiate. Entombment will be in the Oakland Cemetery Mausoleum, Sandusky. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Sandusky Public Library, 114 W. Adams Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or to the donor’s favorite charity. Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky is assisting the family with the arrangements.
