John Martin Millott

John Martin Millott, 80, of Sandusky, died early Tuesday morning, November 20, 2012, at his home.

He was born on August 23, 1932 in Sandusky and was a 1950 graduate of Sandusky High School. John attended St. Joe's College in Indiana and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

John was the president of the John M. Millott Company. Professionally, John was the best at what he did. As one faithful customer said, "All future riggers will be judged by your standards." John loved his craft, working almost up to the end. At the age of 80 John would have continued working had he not encountered ill health.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Sandusky Yacht Club. John was a wonderful husband and father.

John is survived by his wife, the former Marian Ann Schlicht; sons, Michael (Molly) Millott, of Trumbull, CT, and John (Dr. Ruth) Millott, of Warendorf, Germany; daughter, Anna (Frank) Buono, of Salem, MA; grandchildren, Amanda Millott, Nadia Millott, Nina Buono, twins, Michael and Dennis Millott; sister, Anne (Millott) Kramer, of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon E. and Anna L. (Merkle) Millott; a daughter in infancy; and brother, Lawrence J. Millott.

There will be no visitation. In honor of his request, cremation has taken place with inurnment at Oakland Cemetery. Private services will be held for the family.

A special thank you is extended to Dr. Richard Keller who went beyond the call of duty to help John, his wife, and children during this very difficult and sad time. The family will be forever grateful. Thanks also to Dr. James Wysor and staff, Dr. Patrick Waters and staff, Dr. Amy Reese, staff of Seidman Cancer Center/Firelands Hospital, Mary Jamison and Stein Hospice Services, and friends who were so supportive. Thanks also to John Staugh and John Fessenden who were such loyal workers to the end.

Expressions of sympathy, if desired, may be made to Stein Hospice Services, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, or to one's favorite charity. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be shared at www.toftfh.com.
