Robert E. McGuckin, 89, of Norwalk, Ohio died Friday evening, December 7, 2012 in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born June 15, 1923 in Collins, Ohio to the late Elmer and Mina (Dauch) McGuckin and was a lifelong area resident. Bob attended Norwalk High School and joined the United States Army serving in Company G from 1940 to 1945 during W.W. II. He retired from Norwalk Furniture as a Product Engineer in 1983. Bob was an avid golfer before macular degeneration made it difficult to see. He also loved to garden, play cards, and spend time with his family.

He and his wife of 63 years, Marie T. (Reichert), spent many winters with friends in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Bob is also survived by his children, Colleen (Jeff) Sterling of Canton, Ohio, Mark McGuckin, of Stow, Ohio, Dan McGuckin of Norwalk, Ohio, Janet McGuckin of Norwalk, Ohio, and Shirley (Steve) Gray of North Fairfield, Ohio, and by his grandchildren, Chrystina Bleau of Canton, Ohio, Carrie (Steve) Null of Canal Fulton, Ohio, Bobbie, Geoff, and Zach McGuckin of Norwalk, Ohio, Nicole Iehle (Patrick Ball) and Michelle (Rick) Reeder of Norwalk, Ohio, Tricia Iehle of Randleman, North Carolina, and Eric and Spencer Gray of North Fairfield, Ohio, 5 great grandchildren, by his sister in law, Betty McGuckin of Leesburg, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews .

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ann Iehle in 2000, by his son in law, Michael Iehle in 2011, by his brothers, Lambert (Florence) McGuckin of Downingtown, Pa., Jess McGuckin of Florida, Elmer (Evie) McGuckin of Norwalk, Ohio, and by his sisters, Molly (Pete) Molnar of Huron, Ohio, Emma (James) Cassidy of New London, Ohio, and Lena (George) Hinkley of Wisconsin.

There will be no calling hours. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 10, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Msgr. Kenneth Morman will officiate, and Deacon James Reichert (nephew) will assist. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
