James M. Weikle, Sr.

James M. Weikle, Sr., 80, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly early Monday morning, December 10, 2012, surrounded by his family at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.

Born on February 24, 1932 in Union, West Virginia, the son of the late Elbert "Cook" and Della Mae (Fisher) Weikle. He had worked at New Departure-Hyatt (Division of General Motors) for 39 years, retiring on May 1, 1990. In his earlier days, he enjoyed fishing and going deer hunting. Jim was a life member of the Sandusky Eagles Aerie # 444 and a member of the American Legion Post # 83.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the love of his life, Anna Mae (Vass) Weikle, whom he married on July 7, 1959; three sons, James Weikle, Jr., Bob Weikle and Mark (Rob Gorby) Weikle all of Sandusky; sister, Betty (Warren) Cook of Castalia; sister-in-laws, Ellen Kilianek of Sandusky, Cleo (Roy) Winebrimmer, Carol Winebrimmer and Francis (Edwin) Bostic, all of West Virginia; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert "Cook" and Della Mae (Fisher) Weikle in 1987; two brothers that were killed in the Korean War, U.S. Army Sgt Cook Weikle, Jr. on November 23, 1951 and U.S. Navy Delford Lee Weikle in April 1955; a sister in infancy, Vera Francis Weikle; two nephews, Mike Ramboldt (2004) and Ralph K. Steele (1988); mother and father-in-law, Nellie V. (Reynolds) Vass (1999) and Kenna E. Vass (1966); sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alminia (Vass) Dunbar (2009) and James Dunbar (1986); two brother-in-laws, Charlie E. Vass (1963) and Alvin Winebrimmer (2010); special friend, Matt Martinez (1997); and his puppy, his "Little Girl," Angel (2012).

At his request, private family funeral services will be held. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be to one's favorite charity.
