Laurel N." Papa" Cannon, 88, of Norwalk, Ohio died Monday, January 21, 2013 in the Stein Hospice Care Center.

He was born February 27, 1924 in Coffeen, Illinois to the late Roy R. and Grace E. (Donaldson) Cannon. Laurel moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1939 and came to Norwalk, Ohio in 1967. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in W.W.II in the Pacific Theatre. Laurel was a truck driver for Fanny Farmer Candy Company for 48 years and had also worked at Norwalk Furniture Company for 2 weeks. In his retirement years Laurel enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, yard work, playing black jack, and traveling. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

Laurel is survived by his children, Pat and James Rockwell, Clifford E. and Ann Cannon, Laurel D. and Barb Cannon, Sharon and Gerald Braden, and Ruth and Stephen Euton, by 18 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, by two brothers, Jim and Bill Cannon of East Alton, Illinois and by two sisters, Doris and Grace, of East Alton, Illinois.

Laurel was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Ruth (Bradin) Cannon in 1998,by his son, Thomas G. Cannon, by his grandson, Samuel Laurel Souslin, by his sons in law, Terry Wiedemann and Kent Wellman, by his daughter in law, Kathy Cannon, by his brothers, Charlie, Frank, Clifford, Joe, Russ, Rich, and Carl Cannon and by his sisters, Jeanette Shepherd and Vi Baugh.

Private family services will be held. Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.
