John R. Schwiefert

John R. Schwiefert, 87, residing in Bellevue, passed away on Sunday evening, February 10, 2013 in The Willows of Bellevue.

He was born on September 24, 1925 in Huron, and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII from 1943-1946.

John was employed by General Motors for 35 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 83 in Sandusky. John loved to bowl, enjoying the sport for over 50 years. He also loved to do puzzles, gardening, and yard work.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Allene (Koch) Schwiefert, whom he married on March 19, 1944; daughter, Debra (Loren) Pugh, of Bellevue; son, Craig (Judith) Schwiefert, of Bellevue; grandchildren, Kiley, Nikki, Adam, and Cody; step-grandchildren, William Stevens and Brandon Smith; three great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Schwiefert; mother, Johanna (Rosenberg) Dreschel; step-father, Anthony Dreschel; and brothers, Leroy Schwiefert, Walter Schwiefert, and Richard Dreschel.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral Services will be at the funeral home at 11 A.M. on Friday, February 15, 2013, with Rev. Forrest Kirchenbauer officiating. Entombment will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, with the American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard providing military honors.
